Caterham AeroSeven concept leaked
Images of the Caterham AeroSeven concept have been leaked ahead of the radically styled track specialist’s unveiling at this weekend’s Singapore Formula One Grand Prix.
Though its exterior design represents a significant departure from the traditional retro-styled Seven, the AeroSeven concept’s exaggerated bonnet length, low-slung stance, roofless cockpit and rearward seating position make it instantly recognisable as one from British sports car maker.
A signature rectangular grille flanked by slimline LED headlights sits proudly at Caterham’s the front end. Matching tail-lights sit high at the rear over the car’s muscular haunches, prominent bumper and larger rear diffuser.
Overlapping body panels reminiscent of the BMW i8’s are finished in green, yellow and grey.
The race-inspired cabin features two seats incorporated into what is understood to be a carbonfibre monocoque chassis.
Before the driver sits an alcantara-wrapped carbonfibre steering wheel with F1-style controls and a large central display screen.
Caterham is expected to launch a road-legal production version of the AeroSeven concept sometime in 2014.
The car is separate to the sports car that Caterham is developing in collaboration with Renault/Alpine, which is set to more closely resemble a conventional road car when it launches in about 2016.
