This new platform will help BMW take on the Mercedes MFA platform-based GLA compact SUV and the entry level Audi Q3. It will be available in front and all-wheel- drive versions, unlike the current X1 that is offered with rear and all-wheel -drive options. The new X1 is expected to share engines with the 1 Series and will be more spacious than the current model. It is likely the German manufacturer will unveil the new X1 crossover in 2015.
