Piaggio unveils Vespa VX variant
New variant of Vespa’s premium scooter gets additional features like front disc brake, new colour options, tubeless tyres, optional beige seat and more. Scooter will be launched later this month
Iconic Italian scooter manufacturer Piaggio expanded its two-wheeler portfolio by showcasing the Vespa VX in Pune today. Visually, the new scooter is not any different from the existing Vespa but the VX is an all-new variant, not a facelift. The Vespa VX features a 200mm front disc, which is a welcome addition as it was profoundly missed on the standard model. The new variant also gets a reworked instrumentation cluster, beige seat option, and a more detailed and attractive grab rail. Besides, two new shades — Metallic Green and Dual tone Red and Pink — have been introduced.
On the mechanical front there are no changes and the new scooter is powered by the same 125cc, four stroke, 3-valve single cylinder engine delivering 10.06PS of power @ 7,500rpm and 10.6Nm of torque @ 6,000rpm. The automatic CVT transmission on the Vespa VX also remains the same. Underpinnings of the scooter remain unchanged and it features a monocoque chassis and linked suspension at front and single-sided suspension at rear. The Vespa VX gets updated with better shoes as it sports MRF Zapper tubeless tyres which will definitely aid the ride quality.
Although the Vespa was launched as a premium scooter in our country, it managed to carve out a niche for itself. According to Piaggio, Vespa’s parent company, it manages to sell around 4,500 units every month which is commendable given the steep tag. Vespa hasn’t revealed the pricing of the new scooter but expect it to cost slightly more than the standard model owing to the disc brake and other new features. Sales of the Vespa VX would commence after its launch later this month.
